Our Story
Hazel’s Public House started with the mission of making the food we love with the freshest ingredients possible. Our menu of burgers and fries, fresh chicken breaded in-house, unique appetizers, and made-from-scratch bread and pastries merged from our own kitchens as we gathered for Hog games and other social events.
Some of what we made drifted down from our grandmothers, whose preparations survived in recipe books and word-of-mouth instructions that carried the weight of their wooden spoons, wielded for both mixing and swatting.
These ladies did what they could do with what they had, and this homemade-nature stays with us as we channel their spirits into the remaining dishes that, while not conceived in their kitchens, do bear the significant stamp of their influence. We’re excited to share a space we hope you find both completely unique, yet warmly familiar.
Located at the corner of East Markham and Cumberland in Little Rock, Hazel’s Public House fills the ground floor of the Stone Ward Building, built in 1924. This space, originally a warehouse, still sports some of the common trappings of its blue-collar roots. Concrete columns 20-inches thick as well as decorative leaded glass offer a glimpse into the guts and bones of a structure from that era. Modern furnishings blend with the remnants of earlier times to offer a distinct balance between the old and new and leads patrons into a restaurant that blends the best of what was and the best of what is.
We value, in our mission, a return to that time, honoring the baking and cooking arts of our forebears by making things from a scratch kitchen, filled with the fresh ingredients and inviting aromas of yesteryear.
